As I start every post these days (while Chris is at work) I always wonder how long I will have before Sean wakes up... oh, the excitement! So you can envision the author and her babe in action, as I type this and other posts I am typically still in my pj's with him sleeping in a sling on my front, sitting on a balance ball so I can rock him as needed.
At any rate, I feel like I am starting to get more of a routine and feel more confident when I am alone with Sean all day, which is great. I've spent 8 of the last 9 weekdays with Sean while Chris is at work, which has forced me to get more adept at multi-tasking. I do a lot more stuff around the apartment one handed as I carry him around and can get myself showered (well, sometimes), changed and out of the apartment much easier. Sean and I can get outfitted in the Ergo with our fun fleece vest thingee and out the door in 5-10 minutes now, and most days I take him for a long walk or another adventure. At the suggestion of a veteran mom at a party right before I gave birth, I plan on spending some of the cooler days walking with/carrying Sean in DC's various free museums, and we explored the Renwick Gallery-- a first for us both-- last Wednesday. I really liked the glasswork of Lino Tagliapietra and, given the bright colors and interesting light, so did Sean it seemed, especially the large Endeavor piece (14 in this slideshow). Highlights of last week also included the Tuesday new moms group at the Breastfeeding Center, another group class on Wednesday also at the Breastfeeding Center about breastpumps and returning to work, my six week post-natal checkup at the Birth Center (everything doing great), and celebrating Jen's birthday this past weekend (see our Picasa page for pics). Sean is over 12 lbs now and really thriving.
We also tried, and somewhat succeeded, in introducing Sean to the bottle. After not really succeeding earlier in the week, Chris was able to feed him probably 3 ozs. via a fancier, "more authentic" (meaning, shaped like the real thing) bottle on Saturday as I got my haircut. Jen (my partner on the haircut adventure) and I ended up having to wait a long time, but it was great to spend a few hours on my own (and give Chris a few hours of solo caregiving, a preview of his schedule 3 weekdays/week next year) for the first time. I plan on buying a more efficient pump I will use at work next year tomorrow, and we'll start feeding Sean on maybe 1 bottle a day.
That's the end of the post... someone is waking up on my lap and is too cute to ignore. Happy Holidays (and Holiday Prepping) to all!!!!
