Yes We Did

Folks keep asking if we really did go to the Inauguration gathering on the Mall with Sean. We certainly did join the millions on the Mall for Inauguration-- wouldn't want our boy to miss history! Luckily, we're locals so we could stay cozy inside for as long as possible, and then we knew we could head to the very western end of the Mall, near the Lincoln Memorial, and get in and out fairly easily. We went out with Kate, Jen and Annetta and had a great view of the very last Jumbotron. Sean was bundled up very warmly in his Ergo carrier and slept through most of the ceremony. The whole experience was just amazing, in my opinion. I am so glad we got to be a part of it and that he did as well..
Chris brought a bottle of milk, of course, and I guess Sean wanted to bond with his father so he also requested a drink. So, this is me covertly feeding Sean under my carrier in front of the Lincoln Memorial during Obama's inauguration. I feel like I should be featured by the La Leche League for this one! While it's not ideal, I've figured out how to feed Sean while carrying him in the Ergo; my biggest challenge was all the layers we had to keep warm!
We also went down to the Mall last Sunday for the Inaugural Concert, which was another great experience. The crowds in DC last week were just so inspiring, and there was a great feeling in the air overall.
The combination of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and the inauguration meant I was only in the office one day last week. After two weeks of balancing my three days per week in the office (with two pumping sessions each day), working some the days I'm home, and still 2-3 night feedings, it was great to get additional time with Sean. It also meant this week is a transition again as I get used to the schedule, and leaving this morning was tough, maybe even tougher for me emotionally than the first day. Sean has a bit of a head cold so leaving our sniffly boy was a bit of a heartbreaker. He was fussy with Chris this morning but eventually cheered up a bit. However, I'd already shifted things around to come home by mid-afternoon and for my own sake I did so.
Sean's Gramma and Aunt Bub are coming to DC this weekend, which will be great. I wonder if he will recognize the face/voice from his regular webcamming sessions with his grandmother or if he thinks she lives in our laptop. It will be great to spend time with them and show off our ever-growing young boy.
That's all the time I have now. Love to all and I hope that everyone has the same feeling of hope (with uncertainty, of course) for the future as we do!
