Hi everyone! Yesterday was a really exciting, and really moving day-- we got to see The Rookie move. He's healthy (the nurse checked his heart-- 4 chambers, his spine, his brain, bones, etc) and happy, and the first thing we saw as she placed the ultrasound sensor thingee up to my abdomen was what the nurse labeled in the attached as "Boy Parts". So... we have a big, beautiful, healthy boy growing!
The other interesting piece of information is that The Rookie is BIG! Specifically, the estimate is that he weighs 1 lb, 7 oz already, and given the dimensions in his core body, his due date could really be October 9 (meaning, he's at 23.5 weeks rather than kicking off Week 22 as discussed below) rather than October 20. And, if you were to forecast his due date based on the length of his very long arms and legs, he'd be even earlier. In other words, he's already tall like his father! We will actually do another ultrasound July 18 to help pinpoint the due date better.
It really was magical to watch him move around, yawn, grab his feet with his hands, watch his heat beat (at 147 beats/minute), and just see how perfect he is in his spaghetti squash-esque size. [For those I added to this email for the first time, below you'll find a summary of where The Rookie is if this is really his 22nd week... and every week there is a different fruit/vegetable involved in describing his size]. The attached docs are not the greatest resolution but hopefully give you a sense-- they are scanned version of printouts we have from the ultrasound that some of you may get to see in better resolution this weekend. This morning's "movie screening" made the whole thing seem much more real, and much more amazing, than ever before.
Highlights of the past week included dinner with Lea, Wes and Charlie on his first day home from the hospital (last Friday... yeah!), a party at Maury and Andrew's gorgeous new house in Petworth (neighborhood NE of here), going camping in the GW National Forest with a fabulous group of folks (thanks to our friend Jeff for pulling folks together), and lunch yesterday with the awesome Stella Linn (in from IA, and I'm lucky enough to share my birthday with her, though she was born just 3 years ago) and family. This weekend Chris heads to MI to spend time with his family (including not only Pat, Jeff and Meghan, but also all of Pat's siblings and their kids and grandkids) while I impulsively head to MA so that Mom, Bub, Jen, Maura, Liz, etc. can feel some hard Rookie kicks
That's the news here. Love to all!!!!md
