Happy Sunday morning! I'm racing to post this before a certain young man wakes up and distracts me for a while... but given the momentous first meeting between Sean and his paternal grandparents (Gramma met Sean as he emerged, basically), Jeff and Pat (to be known as Grandpa and Grandma), I figured it's worth trying to get a short post in while our little guy snoozes...
Pat and Jeff flew out yesterday (Saturday, November 8) from Oakland, where they live in the house where Chris and his sister Meghan grew up, and are staying down the street at a B&B. After stopping by their room to drop off bags, they came by and met their first grandchild for the first time. Sean was mostly on his best behavior-- he'd had a busy day yesterday and was a bit tired out. This tired-out-ness came in handy since he then slept straight from 10:30-3:30 or so last night and then again from 5 until now (I'm typing this at 7:45)-- yoo-hoo!!!! We should plan to have lots of daytime visitors to tucker him out in the future. :)
Grandma and Grandpa brought lots of cute clothes, including several baby outfits once worn by Chris and Meghan, some beautiful handmade quilts and blankets, and a photo album that I hope to populate/organize before Sean goes off to college! :) Speaking of college, Jeff's coworkers made sure to send out a cap and sweatshirt adorned with the Cal mascot Oski the Bear (Jeff works in HR at the University of California in Berkeley) and have noted that no Stanford items shall be worn by our guy (though my Uncle Ned, who has a doctorate from Stanford, might see that as a challenge!). The Bacas, good friends from the Bay Area, sent a very cute sailor suit-- small Dodsons have a history of sailor suit wearing at family weddings and I'm excited that Sean has his own (though I'm not sure who is on the brink of getting married in the near future!). We look forward to the next week with Sean's California grandparents!!!!
Sean is a man about town these days-- we enjoyed our first outing in a restaurant (though, it's worth noting, I'm making up for lost time: it was my third time having sushi since Sean arrived, the first about 3 hours after he was born) with Lea, hit the U Street Farmer's Market with Kate, got to introduce Sean to more of our DC "family", and went for another checkup at the pediatrician. The exciting news at the doctor's office (a great community health clinic called the Mary's Center about six blocks from home) is that Sean weighs in at almost 9 lbs-- he weighed 9 lbs with a clean diaper and lightweight sleeper. As noted already, he's a champion eater and we are so lucky that breastfeeding is going so well!
As a reminder, I post pictures daily (more or less) on our Picasa site so you can see our guy in action!
I've got a squirmy, now-fed little boy on my lap as I try to finish up this post... and he's impatient with me so I think it's time to wrap up. We'll do some reading (we are going through Tigger Tales now) and get ready to hang out more with Grandpa and Grandma, plus meet Amanda for the first time. Yoo-hoo!!! Lots of love.
