Wanted: good political event to warrant belly painting
Greetings and Happy Labor Day all! I type this from Kate, Meghan and Crickett's pad a few blocks from our own in DC. The Rookie and I went on a great "urban hike" with Mandy, Maura and Kate today, exploring the trails of Rock Creek Park, the C&O towpath, Dumbarton Oaks, etc. It was a great chance to catch up on girl time (well, everyone ex utero) and enjoy the beautiful day. Chris, Kate, her beau Brian and I then took a dip in one of the DC public pools... wonderful! I resolve to search out more pools in the next seven weeks or so... ... seven weeks! That's crazy! I actually feel mentally, emotionally, and logistically a lot more ready. Kate has been very helpful in helping us purge a bunch of stuff (or just get it in storage... and thanks to Aleck and Stacey, and Amanda, for letting us stash stuff in their basement) so we can put a crib in the corner of our bedroom, and make the far corner of our other room (dining/living area) a "Rookie Nook". it will be cosy but that's fine, at least with a newborn. I anticipate we'll be moving within a year from now once our little guy is mobile, details TBD... Speaking of newborns and their cribs, we had a great experience babysitting Charlie while Lea and Wes dressed up fancy and went on a date on Saturday night. We successfully fed, burped, cuddled, swaddled and sshhhed him and he went right to sleep. Victory for all! Obviously, the Rookie's parents find politics fairly interesting, and it's interesting to have the election season overlap with our incubating season. For the last decade as I've found myself at a few marches and political rallies, I've had the desire to paint political slogans on a theoretically-pregnant belly, and am excited to find a specific occasion to do so. Maybe our swing state across the Potomac will entertain the new official nominee and I can use my belly to show my support. Looking for excuses... let me know, locals, when you hear of events (ideally public transportation accessible). It would be ironic and fun to imagine the Rookie debuting on November 4, but I think he'll join us before then. All are welcome to weigh in with their favorite slogan suggestions. That's the basic news here. Love to all (and thoughts to those in the Gulf region). xoxoxo the vessel, the other DNA contributor and a littte guy who likes to kick at computers on my lap
